Those tricky teen numbers from 11-20 are often very difficult for children to master. They require a lot of repetition and practice before children recognize them automatically. Also, counting out quantities greater than ten can be a challenge that requires extra practice. These worksheets provide a motivational resource for teachers to send home for homework and for practicing at school.
Many Ways to Use It
There are lots of ways to use this resource to help kids master the teen numbers 11-20! It doesn’t need to be strictly a “worksheet thing!”
For Use as Independent Centers:
- Many elements of the 11-20 worksheets can also be used as the basis for learning centers and games simply by copying them onto cardstock, cutting, and laminating them. This works especially well for the Cut and Glue Puzzles!
- Worksheets can also be done by inserting them into plastic sleeves and using dry-erase markers.
- Give Students a Choice: Since they generally all practice the same skills, children may choose their favorite format and do that particular type of worksheet for 11-20.
The bundle includes THIRTEEN different worksheet formats to help reinforce number identification from 11-20, with one or two pages in each format.
Set One Includes:
- One Count and Move Poem/Activity for the class to chant, clap, and move while they count from 11-20 in color. (You could also use the student pages in b/w if you cannot print in color.) (10 pgs)
Just like the Counting Creatures book for the numbers 0-10, this book for 11-20 starts out with a count and move-along poem, but this time the children are counting out much larger numbers! Also, we are not simply clapping this time, we are also jumping, hopping, running in place, stomping, slithering, roller skating, digging, patting our legs, doing crossovers exercises, and squishing imaginary bugs! It’s loads of fun and the children just adore it! Here’s a sample video from our dear friend Andrea Gibbs and her wonderful first grade class!
- 10 different student pages for the Count and Move Poem from 11-20 for kids to color or make their own Count and Move booklet for those teen numbers. (10 pgs) The children in Heidi’s class just BEGGED to color the pictures that went with the poem, so she printed out a bunch and let them color them as much as they wanted during their playtime.
- 10 different Workmats for children to practice building the teen numbers 11-20 with real objects, draw them, and write the numbers. (10 pgs)
Set Two Includes:
- Write the missing number in sequence & circle the correct teen number of objects from 11-20. (10 pgs)
- Color, cut & glue the sets of teen numbers from 11-20. (10 pgs)
Set Three Includes:
- Trace and write the teen numbers from 11-20 in the boxes provided, then color the Counting Creature. (10 pgs)
- Circle sets of ten, then color the “extras” that make up the teen number. Then, trace & write the number 11-20. (10 pgs)
Set Four Includes:
- Count and color the items, then answer “Is this a set of ___?” and circle yes or no. (10 pgs)
- Count the objects in each box, then circle the right teen number 11-20. Then copy it in the space. (10 pgs)
Set Five Includes:
- Trace the numbers from zero to the target teen number, (ex. 0-14), and then write them without tracing on the spaces provided. Circle the sets of the target number. Then, turn the paper over and write the numbers from memory. There is also one page with spaces to write from 0-20 with no tracing at all.
- Count the objects and write the teen number 11-20 from memory. (10 pgs)
Set Six Includes:
- Cut and Glue puzzles for each teen number 11-20 in which children count the dots in the ten frames, and then cut out and glue down the puzzle piece with the matching number. These can also be done as reusable centers with or without velcro. (20 pgs)
- Color by Number sheets that match the teen number 11-20 puzzles above. This gives children another way to complete the activity without so much cutting, etc. It’s also great prep for completing the puzzles.
Note that pages are progressive in difficulty.
Each worksheet format begins with the smallest quantities, starting with the number 11, and works its way up to the pages with the largest amounts at the end of the section with the number 20.
Full-color instructions with lots of ideas are also included! (7 pgs)
